Use Segment Agent to build and edit segments

Learn how to use Segment Agent to create, refine, and understand segments through conversation.

Written by Bartlomiej Rekosiewicz

Instead of creating rules manually, describe the segment you want, and Segment Agent generates and updates it. Refine conditions step by step, review the logic, and make changes as needed. Segment Agent works alongside manual segment building, so you can build segments either manually or with prompts.

It helps you create more complex segments by combining conditions and refining logic through follow-up prompts. It generates and updates segment rules based on your prompts.

Before you start

  • Agents may store the information you enter during conversations to improve and enhance their performance over time.

Work with Segment Agent

Start with a clear description of the conditions you want in your segment.

  1. In Marketing, go to Audience > Segments.

  2. Select the AI Agent icon.

  3. The Segment Agent opens in the right-hand panel.

  4. Enter a prompt or select a suggested one.

  5. Review the suggested segment.

  6. Apply changes or continue refining through conversation with the agent.

  7. When you finish editing, select GENERATE SEGMENT.

Control the agent using the icons in the panel:

  • Restart chat
It clears the current conversation and segment context.

  • Close the agent
To open it again, select the AI Agent icon.

Work on your segments using conversational prompts to create, update, and understand segment rules. Segment Agent supports iterative edits, allowing you to refine segments step by step.

Refine segment conditions

Enter a prompt that clearly describes the segment you want to build.

  • Example:

Segment contacts who are subscribed to email in a specific list.

You can refine the segment:

  • Example:
Also include contacts subscribed to SMS.

Build more complex segments

Add more specific conditions to refine your segment.

  • Example:
Include contacts who opened an email in the last 30 days.

You can refine further:

  • Example:
    Exclude contacts who have unsubscribed.

Summarise a segment

You can view a simplified explanation of complex segment logic.

Example:

  • Summarise [example_name] segment.

  • Review generated rules carefully
Check segment logic before using the segment.

  • Use summaries to understand segments
Ask for summaries when working with complex logic.
