Use Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source bulk coupon codes in your campaigns

Add your contacts' unique Magento coupon codes to email and SMS campaigns, reminders, and follow-ups using a data field.

When you generate bulk coupons in Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, each contact's unique coupon code is saved to a contact data field in Marketing. You use the code in a campaign the same way as any other data field.

Because the code stays on the contact's record, it's the same code every time you use it. This means a reminder or last-chance campaign shows the contact the same code as your first send.

Before you start

Add a coupon code to an email campaign

  1. In Marketing, go to Campaigns > Email.

  2. Edit an existing campaign or create a new one.

  3. In EasyEditor, select the text where you want the code to appear.

  4. Insert the data field that holds your coupon codes as personalisation. For example, if your data field is COUPON_SUMMER, the personalisation is @COUPON_SUMMER@.

Each contact sees their own code when the campaign sends.

Add a coupon code to an SMS campaign

The same data field works in SMS and MMS campaigns. Insert it as personalisation in your message.

Coupon codes are only generated for contacts with an email address. If your SMS audience includes contacts without an email address, they won't have a code.

Send reminders and follow-ups

The code stays in the data field until you replace it, so you can use it in as many campaigns as you like. For example, send a promotion, then a reminder a few days later, and each contact sees the same code both times.

To send a follow-up only to contacts who have a code, create a segment using the data field.

Run more than one promotion

Give each promotion its own data field. If you run a new job with a data field that's already in use, the new codes replace the old ones on every contact in the job's audience.

A contact can hold codes for several promotions at the same time, one in each data field.

Check a contact's code

To find the code a contact was sent, open their contact record in Marketing and check the data field. This is useful if a customer contacts you about their code.

Test your campaign

Before you send, preview your campaign as one of the contacts in your audience to check their code shows correctly. Then send a test to yourself or a colleague.

Test sends only show a code if the contact you test with has one in the data field.
