You can add content from your Personalization account directly into Marketing as App blocks. App blocks can then be added to your email campaigns, surveys, pages, or forms by simple drag-and-drop.
You can also enable EasyEditor fields for your Slots and SmartBlocks to allow you to design and edit your Personalization content directly in the Marketing EasyEditor.
Before you start
You must use Dotdigital Marketing as your email messaging provider in Personalization, and have AccountInsight enabled on your Marketing account. Contact your Customer Success representative to discuss.
You must already have connected your Marketing and Personalization accounts.
The Slot you want to use in Marketing must be an Email Personalization Slot.
1. Enable EasyEditor fields for your Slots
This step is optional. Enable EasyEditor fields if you want to edit your Personalization content directly in EasyEditor.
EasyEditor fields are only available for SmartBlocks created with the new SmartBlock editor. SmartBlocks created with the legacy editor need custom fields, which require custom HTML.
Learn more about Personalization content in the SmartBlocks and Slots section of the Personalization Help Center.
2. Push Slots to Marketing
In Personalization, go to Content > Slots.
Select the Slot you want to use in Marketing, then select the Use icon.
On the Push to Dotdigital Marketing tab, expand the Dotdigital Marketing account drop-down menu and select the Marketing account you want to use the Slot in.
Select Push to Dotdigital Marketing.
Your selected Slot is added to Marketing EasyEditor as an App block. You can find it in the Personalization App block menu on the Build tab.
If the App block doesn't appear in EasyEditor, check that it's enabled in Connect > EasyEditor extensions. Learn more in EasyEditor extensions: App blocks overview.
Push a Slot again after you change it
If you edit a Slot, or a SmartBlock in it, push the Slot to Marketing again using the steps above. Some changes appear in your campaigns without a new push, but pushing again makes sure Marketing uses the latest version of your Slot.
3. Use App blocks in EasyEditor
Before you start
Personalization App blocks can be used in email campaigns and in surveys, pages, and forms.
App blocks can't be placed inside dynamic content blocks.
Add an App block to your campaign or page
Create or edit the email campaign or survey, page, or form you want to include an App block in.
From the EasyEditor Build menu, expand the Personalization App block menu.
Find the App block you want to add, then drag it into place on the EasyEditor canvas.
Select the block to open the editor side panel.
Add or edit content in any of the fields you want to change.
Select Apply.
Design the rest of the campaign or page as you want it, then select Save.
Personalization content in an email campaign is generated when a recipient opens the email. To check how your App block looks, send a test campaign to yourself and open it in your inbox.
Show different content for mobile and desktop views
To display a different Personalization Slot for mobile and desktop view, you can create a SmartBlock for each visibility setting, and push Slots containing these SmartBlocks to Marketing as App blocks. Then, in EasyEditor, add each App block to its own column block container and set the visibility you want for the content.
Learn more in Edit content visibility for different devices.
To place a Personalization App block in a column block, make sure that the width of the SmartBlock doesn't exceed the width of the column you want to place it in. If the block is too wide, EasyEditor shows a message on the block saying its width can't be less than its minimum, and the block doesn't appear when you send the campaign.
Check the width of a column block
In Marketing, open your campaign, survey, page, or form.
Drag a column block from the left side Build menu onto the EasyEditor design canvas.
Hover your cursor over the columns, then select and hold the dotted divider line when it appears.
You see a percentage split of column widths along with the width in pixels.
Push the Slot to Marketing again.
You must ensure that your SmartBlock width doesn’t exceed this column width.
Single column blocks
To check the width of single column block, temporarily change the block to have two columns, then follow the above steps to check the width. Add the two column widths together to get the total width of your column block, then revert it two have only a single column.
If you’re working on a survey, page or form, to get an accurate width, set the Column spacing to 0px when you change the block to have two columns.
Check or edit the width of a SmartBlock
In Personalization, create or edit your SmartBlock.
On the Design tab, under Core settings, check the value in the SmartBlock width field.
If you need to change the width, enter a new value in pixels in the SmartBlock width field.
Select Save.
