If the Background and Colour theme options are greyed out, your campaign's template has locked styles. Learn more in Manage user actions in email templates.

Change the background colour of different areas of your campaign

You can change the background colour of blocks, the campaign background, and other layout areas.

While editing your campaign, select the area you want to change. To colour the whole campaign, select the campaign background. To colour one section only, select that block.
In the left-side column, select the Styles tab, then expand the Background section.
Expand the Background layers drop-down menu, then choose the layer you want to style. The layers listed depend on what you selected in step 1.
To change all matching colours throughout the campaign, select Change all matching colours.
Choose a colour by doing one of these:
- Enter a HEX code.
- Select a colour in the Colour picker, and use the slider to adjust its brightness. The slider adjusts brightness by eye, so to match an exact tint of a brand colour, enter its HEX code instead.
- Select a previously used or saved colour from Colours in this campaign or Custom colours, if available.

Picked the wrong colour?

The background colour changes as soon as you select a new colour. To undo any changes, select Undo in the top toolbar or use CTRL/CMD+Z.

Match a block with its background

If you want a block to have the same colour as its background, rather than colouring them both, make the inner one transparent.

Select the block.
In the left-side column, select the Styles tab, then expand the Background section.
Expand the Background layers drop-down menu, then choose the layer for the inner area of the block.
Select the transparency icon.

Add a colour to Custom colours

To save a colour in Custom colours, choose a colour, then select Save colour. You can save a maximum of 50 colours, one at a time.

You can do this in both the Background and Colour theme editor menus.

Colours you save here are also available in the text colour picker.

Remove a colour from Custom colours

For Custom colours, select [Manage].
Under Manage colours, select the colours you want to remove.
Select Remove selected.

Automatically generate a colour theme for your campaign

While editing your campaign in EasyEditor, select any block.
In the left-side column, select the Styles tab, then expand the Colour theme editor menu.
Select AUTO.
You must set a base colour for us to generate your colour theme automatically. To set a base colour, either:
- Enter a HEX code.
- Select a colour in the Colour picker, and use the slider to adjust its brightness.
- If available, select a previously used or saved colour from Colours in this campaign or Custom colours.
Your campaign coordinates its colour theme from your base colour.

An automatic colour theme applies to your whole campaign, not only the block you selected. If a block already has a colour of its own, it keeps its relative lightness. For example, a dark blue block becomes a dark shade of your new base colour.

The colour theme tool changes your font colours automatically to make sure they're always visible.

Manually create a colour theme for your campaign

While editing your campaign in EasyEditor, select the block you want to change.
In the left-side column, select the Styles tab, then expand the Colour theme editor menu.
Select Manual.
You must set each colour of your theme individually. Select the colour you want to change and then choose a colour. To select a colour:
- Enter a HEX code.
- Select a colour in the Colour picker, and use the slider to adjust its brightness.
- If available, select a previously used or saved colour from Colours in this campaign or Custom colours.
