There may be times when you want to use the same block in multiple campaigns without having to build it from scratch each time. With EasyEditor, there are two ways you can do this:
Custom building blocks
These are blocks you’ve designed and saved. When you use a custom building block in a campaign, any edits you make take effect for that campaign only. If you use the custom block again, its design matches the design it had at the time you saved it as a custom block.
Global building blocks
Global building blocks are also custom designed blocks that you save for repeated use, but with global blocks, any edits you make take effect in all campaigns and templates that the global block is used in.
Global building blocks can be made up of multiple types of other email building blocks, as long as they are all contained together in one outer column block.
Before you start
Global building blocks can’t contain Dynamic content blocks or Liquid markup.
If you create a global building block which contains an Unsubscribe link or a $SENDERADDRESS$ marker for CAN-SPAM compliance, these elements can’t be removed from the block once it’s saved.
This is because removing an unsubscribe or sender address from every campaign using the global block could result in non-compliance with email marketing legislation. You instead need to recreate and replace the block to remove these elements.
Save a global building block
Drag the block or blocks you want to use onto the design canvas, and add the text, images, links, and design elements you want.
In the left side menu, expand the Global building blocks section.
Drag and drop the block you want to save into the Global building blocks section.
You must ensure you drag the block into the Global building blocks section. If you drop the block into any other section of the side panel, it is saved as a custom building block, and not a global block.
In the Create a global block popup, enter a name for the block, so that you can recognise it when you want to use it again.
Select Save.
You see the block in the Global building blocks area of the side panel.
You also see a Global block header is applied to the block on the EasyEditor canvas.
Edit a global building block
Open a campaign or template which contains the global block you want to edit.
Select the element within the block that you want to edit.
Make the changes you want, for example, replacing and image or updating some text.
Once you’re happy, select Publish changes.
You see a message that confirms that the changes are applied to every campaign, template, and triggered email that use the block.
To confirm, select Update.
The next time you add the global block into an email design, it has the most recent changes that you’ve applied.
Organise your global blocks
You can create a folder structure to store and organise your global blocks.
To create a new folder:
Expand the Global building blocks section of the left side menu.
Select the New folder icon.
Enter a name for the folder.
Select Save.
You can create nested folders if you want to. To do this, select an existing folder, then follow the above steps to create a new folder inside it.
The top of the menu section has a breadcrumb navigation that allows you to move between folder levels.
You can then select and drag your blocks to place them in the folders you want.
Change a global block’s properties
If you want to change the name or storage location for a global block, you can:
Select the block in the in the Global building blocks section of the left side menu, then select Properties.
or
Hover over the block in the in the Global building blocks section of the left side menu, then select the Settings icon.
Delete a global block
Before you start
You can’t delete a global block if it’s in use in more than one campaign or template.
Expand the Global building blocks section of the left side menu.
Select the block you want to delete.
Select the Delete (trash can) icon.
Select Delete to confirm.
This removes the global block from the menu, and means that you can’t add it to any more campaigns or templates, but any existing uses of the block are not affected.
