Sync Nosto segments to Marketing

Synchronise Nosto behavioural data and new contacts from pop-overs to Marketing.

Written by Gareth Burroughes

The integration between Nosto and Marketing can synchronise your Nosto segments to a Marketing contact data field. The integration creates a new data field against your contacts which holds the names of any Nosto segments a contact belongs to.

Learn more about Nosto segments in Nosto's support documentation.

You can use Nosto's behavioural data to create segments within Marketing for targeted sending, or to power dynamic content in your email campaigns.

You can also choose to have contact email addresses collected through a Nosto onsite pop-over imported directly into a Marketing list.

Before you start

Things you need to know:

  • You need an active Nosto account

  • You must create an API user in Marketing, as you need to add these credentials in Nosto to enable the integration. You need to be a Marketing user who is either an account owner, or has the Can manage account permission enabled to create and view API users.

Turn on behavioural data sync in Nosto

To enable the synchronisation of your Nosto behavioural segment data to your Marketing account:

  1. In Nosto, Go to Settings > Integrations.

  2. For Dotdigital Marketing, select Integrate.

  3. Enter your API user credentials from your Marketing account.

To find your API credentials in Marketing, expand the User menu and go to Settings > Access > API users. You must be the account owner or a managed user with the Can manage account permission to view the Access area.

  4. Switch the Enable Daily Segment Sync toggle to ON.

  5. Select Submit.

The integration updates all contacts in Marketing who are matched in Nosto by email address, and creates new Marketing contacts for those who only currently exist in Nosto.

Synchronise individual Nosto segments to Marketing

  1. In Nosto, go to Segmentation & Insights > Segments.

  2. Select the edit segment icon. This opens the synchronisation menu.

  3. Find Dotdigital Marketing and set the Synchronise this segment toggle to On.

  4. Select Save.
This synchronises the segment into Marketing.

The data sync happens twice a day at 2:47 AM and PM.

During synchronisation, Nosto creates a Contact data field called NOSTOSEGMENT in Marketing. The data field is populated with the value of the Nosto segment names that a contact belongs to. Multiple values are separated by a pipe character.
